New toys for my MacBook Pro

After dropping over a grand on a new laptop there’s no way I can afford it getting any kind of damage. I have taken all procedures to keep my laptop, named Maximilian but usually responds to Max, at the best state it can be. I refuse to see my keyboard shiny with oil stain (gross, I know) or any scratches. I do admit that I accidentally ran the side of my Macbook onto my stairs handle, but the funny part is that my MacBook is fine – the railing wax came off. Good MacBook, good.

Check out my new toy for my Max.

Incase 13″ MacBook Pro Nylon Sleeve Plus – $60 $37.98

Moshi ClearGuard Keyboard Protector – $24.95

So if you’re wondering Why Orange? let me just say it’s my favorite color and Incase makes them (I trust them since I’ve heard nothing but good reviews). And ClearGuard has been praised like crazy and its clear and thin so my back-lit keyboard does not lose its features.

Where is all this money coming from? The rebate of the iPod Touch, duh!

It’s a Mac!

Some people name their cars; some people name their kids (I would hope!). I name my laptop. So I haven’t decided what to name my new 13.3 MacBook Pro yet – so I can’t say it’ a boy or a girl. Wait, what? Yes – that’s right, I am finally part of the Apple Family. I guess the iPod I got a year ago was like baby steps but now, I’m in for sure. How did I function before I had one of these, no clue. But now I’m living so I guess it’s okay.

I got it on a pretty good deal. $1099 for the Macbook and iPod touch (speical promo for students: free iPod touch with Macbook purchase and $100 student discount). What more can you ask for? It’s sleek, stylish and functional. The light up keyboard is my favorite part right now. I’m 100% happy with this purchase. Hooray!

Goodbye Irvine!

After 35 weeks of UC Irivne, I can honestly say I’m glad that my first year is over. I remember the first day I moved into my dorm and I forgot to pack shampoo. I had to wash my hair with my body wash that had mircobeads and it hurt my scalp so bad. I made my best friend go drive to Target to get me some shampoo the next day. I remember looking outside my window the night before and was sad that I had to leave my small town, Walnut. For the past year I have come to appreciate Walnut so much more: my sanctuary, my refuge.

I have come to learn that I am a home person. Not going home for more than week makes me incredibility homesick. I need to be in the present of my parents. I need to breathe Walnut’s air. I rather be completely bored and do nothing back in Walnut than in Irvine. With a full tank of gas and the freedom to do whatever I want, I find myself doing nothing at all. Sounds like I dread Irvine, doesn’t it? Well, I do. Irvine is not everything that’s cracked out to be. This place is pleasant and safe…and that’s it. There are quite some things that amuse me though and made me enjoy this year a little more and make me miss them.

  1. I like the way the Arts / Mesa Bridge shakes every time it’s windy or a car passes underneath. I love walking on it and feel like I’m being lifted off the ground with each step. It’s quite breathtaking.

  2. I like the chalk drawings all over campus. One person wrote on a door “ONE WAY NO RETURN” and “Alternate Dimension”. Someone also drew a giant hairy penis on the ground. Also one of the sewage tunnel cap has an arrow pointing to it saying “Tunnel of Secrets”. Oh and my favorite someone wrote “Biology Major, get out while you’re alive!” across the pathway to the Biological Science lecture hall. No one really notices these things until I pointed it out to them. The rain is most likely going to wash all of it away this weekend. I’m sure more will come though! (I hope!)
  3. Mysterious white flowers. There are some really nice smelling mysterious white flowers all over campus. I tend to walk the long way to class sometimes if I have the time so I can smell them. I don’t have to go looking for them, when I smell them I just have to look around and I can find them. I want a plant like that in my room. I remember my high school used to have these flowers when I saw them in Irvine I was more than happy to stop and smell them (literally).

With my first year done and put away, I got tons of things to look forward to. I have to move in to my friend apartment tomorrow, 6 weeks later I’m moving into my own apartment. I have my 2nd year of college ahead of me. But first, let’s take it one step at a time, summer. Once again I’m working and going to summer school – what else is new right? I’ll find time to enjoy the sunshine and the fun somehow.

Collegeing, dorming, etc-ing

The last couple of days of my first year college experience at UC Irvine is closing in. I’m terrified for my finals but excited to move out. I spent more than enough time in my dorm. Overall, it was a good experience to have. Honestly, when are you going to be thrown into another place with 50 strangers and live with them? Everything from trying to figure out who you can trust (and those you cannot) to sharing a bathroom so you can do your business, I’ve come to become a better people-person.

I took pictures of my room tonight (will post in another entry too lazy to upload photos now)  so I can forever remember the tiny place I called home for 34 weeks. I doubt any thing major will change in my room from now on to end of the school year. I guess I have to say goodbye to all this in a week. I cannot wait to get out of here and get a move on with my life.

Simple observations of first year college, dorming experience, etc.

  • My closet will never be big enough. My clothes currently are bursting out of the drawers and I ran out of hangers long ago.
  • My shoe collection went from – 3 pairs to…11 pairs & counting. Why counting? I was cleaning my room and I found a pair of slippers I’ve never worn.
  • Junk food will only make you feel worse when studying. Opt for water and healthy snacks.
  • My psychology book has two purposes: foot rest and arm rest. …I haven’t read it since last quarter.
  • Bottled water is good. Don’t try to cheat the system and boil water and be peasant-like. …I tried it and got tired of it, quick.
  • Decorate your walls! I feel happier every morning I wake up and see my friends and family staring right back at me.
  • Get a MacBook. It will be your life saver …unless you like carrying your charger around all day and go to class half an hour early to fight for an outlet.

Work hard, Shop harder.

Since I broke my shopping ban last time, I think I’ve been shopping about three to four times a week. …I know it’s bad but now I have more than just an excuse that “I need more clothes” (which isn’t even really a legitimate excuse). I now say “I need to wear this for work” and it’s true. We have theme days and I swear it’s their strategy to make us wear their clothes and damn it, it’s working! I mean at least I’m not buying clothes for the sole purpose of work. I can wear it on a daily basis as well.

My wardrobe has gotten a face lift. Black has now been substituted for purples and greys. Shorts with skirts. Pants with dress. I have a small accessories collection now. I’ve always been a fan of bangles but considering how many I had before and now, wow.

I think I got this all under control as long as I don’t run into debt or max out my card. Sure you can call me a shopaholic but I’m also a workaholic. If I’m going to work hard, I’m going to shop harder. Simple enough, no? I ran into an article named “Women spend eight years of their life shopping“. …I think I already spent my eight years so I think as for now – I’ll just count up.

“Women also dedicate 90 trips a year to keeping up their appearances – shopping for clothes 30 times, shoes 15 times, accessories 18 times and toiletries 27 times,” says the article. I think it only takes me 6 months of make 90 trips to the mall. After all, I work at a mall and I shop before and after work (sometimes during work too!). Oh I’m shameful.

I think I’ll go try on everything I just brought a couple hours ago. Yes, I go shopping on a weekday (if you haven’t noticed its a Tuesday)  and inbetween my classes.

Stressed out and strung up on coffee

I’m not going to lie, I complain – sometimes too much. But this is necessary!

My printer stop working and the left button on my mouse stop responding. I changed the settings so my right click is now my new left click. I feel like I’m left handed. My printer decided to eat my paper like some possessed piece of technology. I think Printer has been spending too much time next to Laptop. They are both misbehaving and I wish I can just beat the both of them. All I want is my printer to work…

I’m hoping that in 51 hours and 6 coffees later, my weekend will start. Oh and of course in between I shall be folding hundreds of tee shirts and jeans while I’m at work.
